How is this different from searching by ZIP code?
Same underlying data and lookup -- this page lets you pick your county directly from a list instead of entering a ZIP code, useful if you're not sure which ZIP covers your area or want to check a neighboring county.
Can this tell me if my specific house lost power?
No. The underlying dataset (ORNL EAGLE-I) is utility-reported, county-level estimated customers-out -- it can confirm a detectable, county-scale outage on a given date, not whether any one specific address lost power.
Why does it say "limited data" next to some counties?
A small number of counties have too little utility-reporting coverage, too few recorded events, or customer-count figures that don't reconcile with any reliable population source -- selecting one of these will show that limitation instead of a false confident answer.
How far back does this go?
2014 through the most recent full year in our data -- the date picker is capped to that range.
