PowerOutageHistory

Terms of Service

Last updated: July 18, 2026

By accessing and using PowerOutageHistory ("the site", "poweroutagehistory.com"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

1. What PowerOutageHistory Is

PowerOutageHistory is a free tool that turns public federal power-outage data (ORNL EAGLE-I, NOAA Storm Events, US Census) into county-level reliability grades and generator/power-station sizing recommendations. We are not a utility, an emergency service, or a retailer — all purchases happen on third-party platforms like Amazon.com.

2. Not Real-Time — Not for Emergency Planning

Data on this site covers 2014 through the most recent full year and is refreshed annually — it is not a live outage tracker. Do not use PowerOutageHistory to check whether your power is out right now, or to make decisions during an active emergency. For real-time outage status, contact your utility. For emergency guidance, follow your local authorities, FEMA, or the National Weather Service.

3. Accuracy of Information

Reliability grades and statistics are computed from public data using the method described on our Methodology page, including known data-quality limitations that are disclosed there rather than hidden. We make reasonable efforts to keep this accurate, but cannot guarantee it is error-free. Product prices and availability shown via Amazon links may change without notice — always verify on Amazon before purchasing.

4. Affiliate Links

PowerOutageHistory contains affiliate links to Amazon.com. When you click these links and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. See our Affiliate Disclosure for full details.

5. Intellectual Property

Original content on PowerOutageHistory — including text, design, and code — is owned by PowerOutageHistory and protected by copyright. Underlying outage data is sourced from ORNL EAGLE-I (CC BY 4.0) and NOAA Storm Events (public domain); see our Methodology page for attribution. You may not reproduce or redistribute our computed statistics, charts, or written content without prior permission.

6. User Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Scrape, crawl, or bulk-download data from the site without permission
  • Attempt to interfere with site functionality or infrastructure
  • Use the site for any unlawful purpose
  • Misrepresent your identity when contacting us

7. Third-Party Links

PowerOutageHistory links to external websites (primarily Amazon.com, and our government data sources). We are not responsible for the content, policies, or practices of third-party sites. Your use of those sites is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

8. Limitation of Liability

PowerOutageHistory is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site, reliance on outage data or reliability grades, or purchases made through affiliate links.

9. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the latest revision. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance.
